Beginner Guitar Course Week 17 Step 3 and 4

Beginner GuruAin’t No Sunshine alternative parts + Chart!

Today we continue to work on ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ as we read a chart and consider some alternative patterns.

This is the last time we play this song as next week is revision week.

Let’s get right to it.

Week 17 – Step 3 – 10-20 min

Here’s a TAB chart for ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’: Ain’t No Sunshine

In the chart you see my two basic patterns and the structure of the song.

After repeating the Verse/Chorus section you move into the M8 section where you simply tap the tempo as the singer goes “I know, I know” 27 times.

As you come out of this section you play the Am7 loop as during the end of a Verse.

Follow this by another Verse and you end up playing the Am7 loop three times before you move to Em.

For the Outro, simply repeat the pattern until the singer clearly wants to end it.

Keep one eye on the chart and the other on the video as you play along.

Week 17 – Step 4 – 10-20 min

Let’s consider a few alternative parts for this song, we still maintain the Em – G movement and stay at the bottom of the neck using open position chords.

You could use these as second guitar parts when playing along with the video or when you play the song on your own.

You could even mix them up with the original part.

Here’s a few ideas for the Verse pattern:

Try all patterns to a click, maybe even come up with a few of your own.

Here are some ideas for how you could play the Turnaround:
