Led Zeppelin never released singles!
Led Zeppelin was an English rock band that formed in September 1968.
They never released any singles but have had massive reach with tunes like ‘Black Dog’, ‘The Rain Song’, ‘The Song Remains The Same’, ‘Whole Lotta Love’, ‘The Ocean’ and especially ‘Stairway To Heaven‘ (possibly the most famous rock song ever!)
Led Zeppelin dominated the 70s rock scene and have had numerous bands following their approach on loud Blues/Rock music.
The main strength of the band lay within the four members having an equally strong input on the finished product.
Stairway To Heaven was never released as a single!
‘Stairway to Heaven’ is a song from the album ‘Led Zeppelin IV’. In hindsight, considering that this album is the third best-selling album of all time, it is ironic that Jimmy Page originally intended it to be completely anonymous.
The album doesn’t actually have a title, the band members’ peculiar symbols are all that crown this master piece’s sleeve notes. Even the cover doesn’t say, Led Zeppelin!
The reason for this is the anti-establishment attitude that Led Zeppelin have always had. They never released any singles either.
Led Zeppelin IV
With songs like ‘Stairway To Heaven’ and ‘Black Dog’, the album that came to be called ‘Led Zeppelin IV’ was an instant success and played on almost every radio station in America on a daily basis for years to come.
Eventually achieving the title ‘Most Requested Song Of All Time’ on American radio, ‘Stairway To Heaven’ epitomised what every other rock band tried to write.
Surprisingly, ‘Led Zeppelin IV’ only reached #66 on Rolling Stones magazine’s list of ‘Greatest Albums Of All Time’.
Considering that there is no album title, not even a band name on the cover and that no singles were ever released, it is definitely #1 on the cool chart.
Led Zeppelin IV made Led Zeppelin the biggest band in the world since The Beatles.
